July 5th 2005 Mandarin Oranges
Today, after a long hard day at work, I drove home (after checking out a very nerdy book on C programming from the Bucknell library) and cracked open a container of mandarin oranges that I bought a few days ago—and damn, were they good. Oh, so good. I haven’t had mandarin oranges in a really, really long time, and it was like being in heaven to finally eat those yummy fruits again. Mandarin oranges are nature’s way of saying “I love you.” They honestly top the list of things that make me happy. I remember once, during my senior year of high school, when I was home for winter break, I thought, “Damn, I really want some mandarin oranges. But we don’t have any. Drat!” And then I came back to school and bam! the cafeteria served mandarin oranges the first day back. I was in heaven. That was seriously one of the best days of my life. It’s probably even my best memory of senior year. I don’t know what it is about those little guys, but I love them so much. They’re tasty and bite-sized, and they’re squishy and orange, and they’re good for you, which is certainly a plus. I mean, damn—I’d rather eat a mandarin orange than a freakin’ chocolate chip cookie for God’s sake! That’s how freakin’ good they are!
